Research and Development
For VANS Boya Kimya, R&D activities are a window to development and success.
Our R&D team, consisting of chemical engineers who are experts in their fields, carries out the activities of researching new information and technologies and developing quality and environmentally friendly products suitable for use.
VANS Boya Kimya product development studies are carried out with computer aided (CAD) high technology laboratory devices. Developed formulas are verified by test productions made in pilot application units.
Our R&D and technical service departments are in close contact with our customers in all stages from the formula development stage to the application of the paint in order to offer the most suitable alternative solutions for customer technical needs. VANS Paint whenever needed Chemistry is ready to serve.
DSC
By using the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) device, analysis information can be obtained advantageously instead of other test methods (gel time, solvent curing test, stocking stability, etc.). Information such as the glass transition temperature (Tg) and cured film temperature (Cured Tg) values of the powder coating, the storage ability of the paint, its resistance to softening when exposed to heat after curing, the reaction rate of the paint, as well as the information whether the cured paint film is adequately or excessively cured or insufficiently cured. gives.
ASH FURNACE
It is an oven that can operate in the temperature range of 25°C to 1100°C. With this oven, the resistance of high temperature resistant powder coating products such as EE56, SL54 is tested.
AIR CONDITIONING CABINET
It is a device developed to revive real climatic conditions by controlling cycles such as temperature and humidity. Time and humidity programming can be made in order to monitor the behavior of the sample placed in the desired ambient conditions at constant temperatures, where stability, artificial aging, storage and shelf life tests can be carried out easily under humidity-free or 0-98% relative humidity conditions and temperature ranges between -40°C and 150°C. .
MEASUREMENT OF ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY EN 61340
Normally all powder coatings are insulators. However, as Iba Kimya, we can produce conductive and antistatic (ESD) products upon request. The surface resistance of the coated panels is measured with this device in Ohm/sq to determine the conductive properties.
ACCESSIBLE UV TEST
Iba Kimya uses two different QUV equipment and a Xenon Test equipment as an air-conditioning cabinet that simulates the effect-deformation caused by rain and full-spectrum sunlight on the painted surface for months or years. All our GSB and Qualicoat approved series are continuously tested and developed on B313 and WOM devices.
RHEOMETER
During the curing of the powder paint, first the powder paint particles melt and in this way, they can wet the surface that it is painted. As the temperature and time it is exposed to increase, the reaction with the thermoset structure takes place and gelation occurs. The change in the viscoelastic structure depending on the temperature during curing can be evaluated with the rheometer device. In this way, the melting and gelation temperatures of the paint, as well as the viscosity values during curing, can be calculated.
RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY
The Raman effect allows rapid, non-destructive chemical analysis of solids, powders, liquids and gases - today, Raman spectroscopy is used in many different fields. Raman in powder paints is used to determine the causes of surface defects in coated films, to determine the amount of lead pigment and special materials in powder paints.
SALT WATER MIST TEST
It is a laboratory test that measures the corrosion resistance of metal material painted with organic paint. The pretreatment is used for the overall comparison of metal material and organic paint. A one-to-one match cannot be established between the test result and the durability period in the usage area. However, according to ISO 12944, a direct correlation can be given with the result of the salt water fog test according to the corrosion classes C2-C5. In the Salt Water test, the material is constantly exposed to 5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution at 35°C, and at different rates in the usage area, it is exposed to humidity, temperature and ionic interaction. Tests are carried out in our company according to ISO 9227 standard.
MOISTURE TEST
It is used to evaluate the resistance of the painted material in constant or changing condensate water environments. In accordance with the ISO 6270 standard, materials are tested according to the choice of CH (condensation environment at constant humidity), AHT (condensation environment at changing humidity and air temperature) and AT (condensation environment at changing air temperature).
GRADE OVEN
The gradient oven is a test apparatus for evaluating the curing behavior of the powder coating film. It consists of 45 heating elements, each with microprocessor control. It can be programmed in linear increments or piecewise increments to precisely determine the curing temperature. The rise temperature rate and curing time can be programmed to simulate customer conditions, and the cured film has excellent chemical resistance, impact resistance, yellowing at extreme temperatures, etc. It gives information on how it behaves in different curing conditions, such as
MACHU TEST
It is an accelerated corrosion test used by Qualicoat and is widely used in Europe. The brine fog test usually takes between 500 and 1000 hours. This time can slow down development work in R&D labs. The Machu test can provide faster results, with an evaluation time of 48 hours, giving a parallel comparison to the 1000 hour salt water mist test. Because the test conditions are quite severe, the Machu test results are slightly lower on average to the corresponding salt spray results; if a paint passes the Machu test, it will most likely pass the salt fog test as well. Tests are carried out in our company according to the ASTM B117 standard.
HOLIDAY DETECTOR
It is a device that measures the dielectric strength of powder paints according to the coating thickness. It is used to determine the maximum voltage at which the powder coating surface can maintain its insulation in conductive material such as metal. Premature corrosion of a surface is often caused by failure of the coating above it. A big reason is the presence of imperfections in the cured paint coating, collectively referred to as porosity. The Holiday test is used to detect holes in the paint coating. It enables the detection of even the smallest coating defects that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
